Coypu
Myocastor coypus

Adult coypus are large semi-aquatic rodents found in marshes, canals, riverbanks, and other freshwater wetlands. They graze heavily on reeds, sedges, roots, and crops, often feeding at the water’s edge before retreating to burrows or dense cover. Strong swimming ability, webbed hind feet, and closable lips behind the incisors let them gnaw underwater vegetation efficiently. Their digging can weaken banks and levees, making them ecologically important where introduced.
