Eurasian Blackcap
Sylvia atricapilla

The Eurasian Blackcap is a small warbler found in woodland, scrub, gardens, and hedgerows across much of Europe and western Asia, with many populations migrating seasonally. It feeds mainly on insects and other small invertebrates in spring and summer, then switches heavily to berries and fruit in autumn and winter. Agile and often partly concealed among foliage, it darts between branches while giving rich, fluting song; males have a black cap, while females and juveniles have a warm brown cap. A notable fact is that some central European birds have developed new wintering routes toward Britain and Ireland, influenced by garden feeding and milder winters.
