Eurasian Blackcap Fledgling
Sylvia atricapilla (fledgling)

Eurasian Blackcap fledglings shelter in thick foliage near their natal territory while gaining strength and control in short, fluttering flights. Their parents continue feeding them insects and other small invertebrates, while the young gradually begin sampling berries and soft fruit. Brown-capped and less boldly marked than adult males, they often give quiet begging calls from cover. Although they leave the nest quickly, fledglings may remain dependent on their parents for several weeks.
