Fowler's Toad
Anaxyrus fowleri

Fowler's Toad lives in sandy fields, open woods, river valleys, and shorelines, often staying near shallow breeding pools in spring and summer. It is mostly nocturnal, hunting ants, beetles, flies, and other small invertebrates with a quick sticky tongue. When threatened, it may puff up, crouch, release irritating skin toxins from its parotoid glands, or bury itself in loose soil. A notable field mark is the usual cluster of three or more warts inside each dark dorsal spot.
