Imported Currantworm
Nematus ribesii

The adult imported currantworm is a small sawfly found around currant and gooseberry plants, where it searches for mates and egg-laying sites. It is a weak but capable flier, moving between host leaves rather than hunting prey. Adults feed little compared with the larvae, with reproduction being their main role. Females use a saw-like ovipositor to place eggs into leaf tissue, the trait that gives sawflies their name.
