Nut Weevil
Curculio nucum

A small brown weevil found in hazel scrub, woodland edges, and hedgerows where hazelnuts develop. Adults feed on leaves, buds, and young nuts, and females use their long curved rostrum to drill into nuts before laying eggs. The hard wing cases protect the body, while the folded flight wings allow short flights between host plants. Its elongated snout is a notable tool for reaching through the tough green husk of a hazelnut.
