White-marked Tussock Moth Larva
Orgyia leucostigma (larva)

This hairy caterpillar lives on trees and shrubs in forests, parks, orchards, and urban plantings. It feeds by chewing leaves from many hardwoods and ornamentals, often resting exposed on foliage rather than hiding deep in cover. Its bright tufts and long hairs warn predators away, and the hairs can irritate skin or mouths on contact. A notable feature is the row of pale brushlike tussocks along the back, with longer black hair pencils near the ends.
