Moon Jelly Polyp

Aurelia aurita (polyp)

Moon Jelly Polyp

This tiny sessile stage anchors to rocks, shells, pilings, or seaweed in sheltered coastal water. It feeds by extending a ring of tentacles to sting and draw in microscopic zooplankton. When conditions are favorable, it can clone itself or divide into stacked discs that bud off as young jellyfish. Its fixed lifestyle makes defense and persistence more important than movement.
