Household Casebearer Larva

Phereoeca uterella (larva)

Household Casebearer Larva

This larva lives in houses, closets, and sheltered corners, carrying a flattened silk case coated with dust, sand, lint, and other debris. It feeds on spider webs, shed hairs, wool fibers, dead insects, and other dry organic material. When disturbed, it retreats into the portable case and drags the whole shelter away with its body hidden inside. The case is open at both ends, allowing the larva to turn around inside and feed or move from either direction.
