Alligator Gar Fingerling
Atractosteus spatula (fingerling)

Alligator gar fingerlings patrol vegetated lake edges, bayous, and slow river margins. They ambush aquatic insects, minnows, small crustaceans, and other young fish with quick snaps of the jaws. The long snout is already obvious, and the hard ganoid scales begin giving the young fish a tough, armor-like feel. Fingerlings grow quickly when warm water and abundant small prey are available.
