Dock Bug
Coreus marginatus

The adult dock bug is a brown, broad-bodied true bug found in meadows, field margins, hedgerows, and gardens where docks and sorrels grow. It feeds mainly on plant sap and developing seeds using a piercing-sucking rostrum. Adults can fly and often overwinter hidden in dry vegetation or sheltered crevices. A notable defence is the release of a strong-smelling secretion from scent glands when handled or threatened.
