Locust Borer Larva
Megacyllene robiniae (larva)

A pale, soft-bodied grub that lives hidden under the bark and inside the wood of black locust trees. It feeds by chewing galleries through the inner bark and sapwood, staying protected from most predators within its tunnel. Its slow, legless body is built for boring rather than open movement. Heavy larval feeding can weaken young or stressed trees, making this life stage the most damaging part of the species' life cycle.
