Great Grey Owl
Strix nebulosa

The adult Great Grey Owl lives in boreal forests, peatlands, and open woodland edges across the northern hemisphere. It hunts mostly voles and other small mammals, listening from a perch before gliding down silently or plunging through snow. Its huge facial disk funnels faint sounds toward the ears, allowing it to locate prey hidden below the surface. Despite being one of the longest owls, much of its size is feathers, making it lighter than it appears.
