Oriental Garden Lizard
Calotes versicolor

Adult Oriental garden lizards are common in gardens, plantations, scrub, and open woodland across much of South and Southeast Asia. They are active daytime hunters that perch on trunks, branches, walls, or fences and lunge at insects and other small prey. Males can develop a vivid red or orange head and dark throat during the breeding season, a display that gives the species its nickname “bloodsucker” despite being harmless to people. Adults also change shade with temperature, stress, and surroundings, using color and stillness to avoid detection.
