Guanaco Cria
Lama guanicoe (cria)

A guanaco cria is born on open Patagonian grasslands and Andean shrub-steppe, where it must stand and follow its mother soon after birth. It nurses at first, then begins nibbling grasses, herbs, and lichens as its rumen develops. Young crias stay alert and run in short bursts to keep close to adults when foxes or pumas are near. A notable fact is that guanaco mothers do not lick newborns clean, which helps reduce scent cues for predators.
