Budgerigar Chick
Melopsittacus undulatus (chick)

A helpless nestling that remains hidden in a tree hollow or nest cavity in dry Australian scrub and open woodland. It begs loudly and depends on its parents for regurgitated grass seeds rather than feeding on its own. Newly hatched chicks are blind and nearly bare, gaining down and pin feathers as they grow. A notable feature is the oversized gape, which helps guide food delivery in the dark nest cavity.
