Siamese Fighting Fish
Betta splendens

Adults inhabit shallow, slow-moving freshwater habitats across Southeast Asia, including floodplains, rice fields, canals, and vegetated pools. They eat small insects, larvae, crustaceans, and other tiny aquatic animals, striking with quick bites. Males are famously territorial, flaring their gill covers and fins when confronting rivals. A notable fact is that they breathe atmospheric air with a labyrinth organ, allowing survival in warm water with little dissolved oxygen.
