Betta splendens (fry)
Tiny fry drift and dart among floating plants in warm, still waters such as rice paddies, marsh edges, and shallow ditches. They feed on microscopic animals, infusoria, and newly hatched aquatic invertebrates. At this stage they avoid larger fish and depend on cover near the surface. A notable early trait is their rapid growth after the yolk sac is absorbed.
