Ass Foal
Equus asinus (foal)
Young domestic ass foals stay close to their mothers in dry grasslands, scrub, farms, and village edges where donkeys are kept. They feed on milk at first, then begin nibbling grasses, hay, and other tough plants as their teeth and gut develop. Foals are alert and leggy soon after birth, relying on quick steps, kicks, and their mother’s protection when threatened. A notable trait is how early they can stand and follow, an adaptation shared by equids born in open habitats.
