Australian Water Dragon
Intellagama lesueurii

Australian water dragons live along creeks, rivers, lakes, and moist forest edges in eastern Australia, often basking on rocks, logs, and low branches near water. They are agile climbers and strong swimmers, dropping into water to escape danger and staying submerged for extended periods. Their diet is omnivorous, including insects, spiders, small vertebrates, fruit, flowers, and other plant material. A notable feature is the male’s prominent crest and seasonal red flush on the chest, used in display and territorial encounters.
