Humboldt Penguin Chick
Spheniscus humboldti (chick)

A Humboldt penguin chick stays in a protected nest scrape, cave, or guano burrow along the rocky Pacific coast of Peru and Chile. It is covered in soft gray-brown down and depends on adults for regurgitated fish and squid. At this stage it mostly begs, pecks weakly, and huddles low when threatened. A notable fact is that Humboldt penguin chicks often grow in shaded nest sites because intense sun can quickly overheat them.
