European Hedgehog Hoglet
Erinaceus europaeus (hoglet)

A European hedgehog hoglet begins life in a hidden nest of grass and leaves, usually under a hedge, shrub, or pile of garden debris. It is born blind and helpless, nursing from its mother before gradually trying soft invertebrate food. Its first pale spines are soft at birth but harden soon afterward, giving even the youngster a basic defensive covering. If the nest is disturbed, the mother may move the hoglets to a safer site.
