Greater Flamingo
Phoenicopterus roseus

An adult Greater Flamingo is a tall wading bird of saline lakes, coastal lagoons, estuaries, and alkaline wetlands. It feeds with its head upside down, filtering algae, brine shrimp, and other tiny aquatic organisms through specialized plates in the bill. Adults use long legs for wading, broad wings for strong flight, and loud calls during displays and disputes. Its pink coloration comes from carotenoid pigments gathered from its food.
