Grey Seal Pup
Halichoerus grypus (pup)

Grey seal pups are born on cold North Atlantic shores, usually on rocky islands, sandbanks, or remote beaches. They drink rich milk from their mother and build fat quickly, but they are clumsy on land and do not feed for themselves until after weaning. Their white birth coat helps them blend into pale coastal surroundings, though it is shed before regular swimming begins. A notable fact is that pups can more than double their weight in only a few weeks.
