Common Quail
Coturnix coturnix

Adult common quail are small, secretive gamebirds of grasslands, hayfields, grain crops, and other low vegetation. They spend much of their time walking and running on the ground, feeding on seeds, shoots, and small invertebrates. When threatened, they usually rely on camouflage before bursting into a low, rapid flight from cover. A notable fact is that this compact quail is migratory, with many birds crossing long distances between Europe, Africa, and western Asia.
