Olive-backed Sunbird Hatchling
Cinnyris jugularis (hatchling)
A newly hatched Olive-backed Sunbird rests deep inside a hanging, purse-shaped nest in gardens, mangroves, and forest edges. It is mostly bare-skinned, weak, and dependent on its parents, begging with soft calls and gaping for food. At this stage it is fed mostly tiny insects and other soft arthropods rather than nectar. A notable feature is its complete reliance on the enclosed nest for warmth, concealment, and protection.
