Saker Falcon
Falco cherrug

An adult Saker Falcon hunts over steppes, semi-deserts, farmland edges, and open uplands from eastern Europe across central Asia. It takes ground squirrels, pikas, small birds, and other prey with fast low pursuit, sudden dives, and powerful talon strikes. Pairs nest on cliffs, pylons, or old nests made by other large birds rather than building their own. This species is prized in falconry and is also conservation-dependent in parts of its range because of trapping, electrocution, and habitat change.
