Harlequin Ladybird Pupa
Harmonia axyridis (pupa)

The pupa is fixed to a leaf, stem, wall, or bark surface while the beetle reshapes inside. It does not feed, relying instead on its tough outer covering and chemical protection while it waits out this vulnerable stage. If disturbed, it can twitch or jerk to deter small predators and parasitoids. Its compact orange-and-black case is a notable sign of the hidden transformation from hunting larva to winged beetle.
