Evening Grosbeak Hatchling
Hesperiphona vespertina (hatchling)
This newly hatched songbird remains in a nest high in coniferous or mixed woodland, where it is fed by its parents. It gapes and calls persistently for soft insects and regurgitated seeds. Its bare skin and closed or only partly opened eyes leave it entirely dependent on warmth and protection from the adults.
