Domestic Dog

Domestic dogs live alongside humans across nearly every habitat, from cities and villages to farms, forests, and cold northern regions. Adults are highly social mammals that use scent, posture, barking, and biting to communicate, defend themselves, and interact with other animals. They are omnivorous carnivorans, usually eating prepared food or scavenged scraps but retaining jaws suited for meat and bone. A notable fact is that selective breeding has produced enormous variation in size, shape, coat, and working behavior within one domesticated species.
