Bear Cicada Nymph
Cryptotympana facialis (nymph)

Bear cicada nymphs live underground in woodland and urban soils, sheltering beside the roots of trees. They feed by drawing sap from roots and move slowly through the earth with powerful digging forelegs. A nymph may remain below ground for several years before climbing out to molt into a winged adult.
