Little Brown Bat
Myotis lucifugus

Little brown bats live across much of North America, roosting in buildings, caves, tree hollows, and rock crevices and hibernating in cool, humid sites during winter. They emerge at dusk to catch flying insects such as mosquitoes, midges, moths, and beetles, using agile flight over forests, wetlands, and open water. Echolocation lets them track tiny prey in complete darkness with rapid high-frequency calls. This species can eat a large fraction of its body weight in insects in a single night, making it an important nocturnal predator.
