Large Flying Fox
Pteropus vampyrus

The large flying fox is a huge fruit bat of Southeast Asian forests, mangroves, orchards, and coastal islands. It flies long distances at night to feed on fruit, nectar, and flowers, helping disperse seeds and pollinate plants. By day it hangs in exposed roosts, grooming, shifting position, and communicating with loud calls. Despite its name, it drinks no blood and is one of the world’s largest bats by wingspan.
