Field Cricket
Gryllus campestris

Adult field crickets inhabit sunny, dry grassland and heathland with bare ground suitable for burrows. They are omnivorous, feeding on plant material, seeds, carrion, and small insects. Adults spend much of the day near their burrow and emerge to forage or defend a territory. Males produce their familiar chirping song by rubbing their forewings together, often calling from a burrow entrance.
