Giant Anteater
Myrmecophaga tridactyla

The giant anteater inhabits savannas, grasslands, wetlands, and open forests across South America. It tears into ant and termite nests with long curved claws, then flicks out its sticky tongue to feed. Usually solitary, it travels widely while avoiding prolonged feeding at any single colony. When threatened, it can rear up and defend itself with powerful foreclaws.
