Eastern Tiger Swallowtail Chrysalis
Papilio glaucus (pupa)

The eastern tiger swallowtail chrysalis is formed on a twig, stem, or other sheltered support near the caterpillar's host plant in woodland edges, gardens, and parks. It does not feed or travel during this pupal stage, remaining suspended by a silk girdle while its body transforms into a butterfly. Its green or brown casing helps it blend into surrounding vegetation, and late-season chrysalises may overwinter before emerging in spring.
