Common Moorhen Chick
Gallinula chloropus (chick)

A Common Moorhen chick is a tiny black, downy waterbird found close to floating vegetation, reedbeds, and sheltered pond edges. It follows its parents soon after hatching and can swim early, but it still relies on cover and adult feeding. Its diet is soft plant matter, small insects, and other easy-to-swallow invertebrates. The bright red-and-yellow bare patch on the head makes the chick surprisingly distinctive despite its small size.
