Helmeted Guineafowl
Numida meleagris

Adult helmeted guineafowl inhabit African savannas, open scrub, grassland, and farmland, usually foraging on the ground by day. They eat seeds, grains, berries, insects, ticks, and other small invertebrates, using quick pecks and constant walking searches. When threatened, an adult usually runs first, but it can burst into short flight, flap, kick, peck, and give loud alarm calls. The bony helmet, bare facial skin, and spotted plumage make this species one of the most recognizable guineafowl.
