Barn Owl
Tyto alba

Adult barn owls hunt mostly at night over grasslands, marsh edges, farmland, and open woodland, quartering low above the ground in near-silent flight. They feed mainly on small mammals such as voles, mice, rats, and shrews, locating prey with exceptional low-light vision and very sensitive hearing. Their soft-edged flight feathers greatly reduce wing noise, allowing close approaches before a talon-first strike. The pale heart-shaped facial disc funnels sound toward the ears, helping pinpoint prey even in darkness.
