Swamp Wallaby Joey
Wallabia bicolor (joey)

A swamp wallaby joey develops in its mother’s pouch while she forages through dense scrub, heathland, and wet forest margins of eastern Australia. As it grows, it begins peering out and making short exploratory trips close to her, feeding on tender grasses, ferns, and browse. A notable feature of this stage is its long pouch dependence: the joey returns to nurse and shelter until it is capable of keeping pace through thick cover.
