Moose Calf
Alces alces (calf)
Moose calves are born in northern forests, wetlands, and lakeside habitats, where they remain closely beside their mothers for protection. They nurse heavily during their first months, then begin browsing tender willow, birch, and aquatic vegetation. Young calves are alert and quick on their long legs, relying on speed and their mother's defense to avoid predators. A notable fact is that a newborn moose calf can stand and walk within hours of birth.
