Texas Spiny Lizard
Sceloporus olivaceus

Adult Texas spiny lizards live in open woodland, scrub, yards, fences, and rocky areas, where they bask on vertical surfaces and sprint for cover when approached. They are insectivores, eating a variety of arthropods such as beetles, ants, grasshoppers, moths, and spiders. Males display with head-bobs and push-up-like movements, and breeding males often show blue patches on the belly. Their strongly keeled, spiny scales help break up their outline and make them difficult to spot on bark.
