Giant Water Bug Nymph
Belostoma flumineum (nymph)

Giant Water Bug nymphs live in ponds, marshes, and slow-moving streams, usually hiding among submerged vegetation close to the surface. They ambush mosquito larvae, small aquatic insects, and tiny tadpoles, grasping prey with developing raptorial forelegs and piercing it with their beak. Unlike winged adults, nymphs cannot fly between wetlands and remain dependent on their home water. As they grow, they molt repeatedly, shedding their exoskeleton before reaching adulthood.
