Grey-headed Flying-fox Pup
Pteropus poliocephalus (pup)
This dependent pup is born in tree roosts within the grey-headed flying-fox’s forest and urban-edge camps of eastern Australia. It clings to its mother’s fur while nursing, later remaining at the roost as she flies out to feed on nectar, pollen, blossoms, and fruit. As it grows, the pup practices climbing and short flights among branches before joining the colony’s nightly foraging trips.
