Herring Gull
Larus argentatus

An adult coastal gull of cliffs, islands, estuaries, harbours, lakes, and urban rooftops, often patrolling wide areas on strong wings. It is an opportunistic feeder that hunts, scavenges, steals food, and drops hard-shelled prey such as mussels onto rocks to break them open. Adults defend nesting territories with calls, postures, pecks, and dive-bombing passes at intruders. A notable fact is that it has a red spot on the lower bill that helps stimulate chicks to beg for food.
