Queen Conch Larva
Aliger gigas (larva)

Queen conch larvae drift through warm Caribbean and western Atlantic surface waters as part of the plankton. They swim with bands of tiny cilia and feed on microscopic algae and other suspended particles. A larva develops a minute shell and can remain planktonic for several weeks before settling onto the sea floor.
