Aldabra Giant Tortoise Hatchling
Aldabrachelys gigantea (hatchling)
Hatchlings emerge on the Aldabra Atoll and shelter among dense vegetation, leaf litter, and low scrub. They feed mainly on tender grasses, leaves, and fallen fruit while remaining much more concealed than adults. Their small, domed shells already provide important protection, but young tortoises are vulnerable to predators and dehydration.
