Black-headed Gull
Chroicocephalus ridibundus

An agile gull of inland wetlands, lakes, estuaries, fields, and coasts, often feeding by walking, dipping to the surface, or catching food in flight. Its diet is varied and includes insects, earthworms, small fish, crustaceans, carrion, and human food scraps. In the breeding season it has a dark chocolate-brown head rather than a truly black one, while in winter the head becomes mostly white with a dark ear spot. It is known for noisy colony nesting and bold aerial mobbing of intruders near its nesting area.
