Little Egret
Egretta garzetta

An elegant white heron of shallow wetlands, estuaries, lagoons, rice paddies, and muddy shores. It hunts by stalking, foot-stirring, and stabbing at small fish, frogs, crustaceans, and aquatic insects. Adults are agile fliers and may defend feeding or nesting space with bill jabs, wing beats, and display postures. A notable feature is the pair of long white head plumes and lacy back plumes grown during the breeding season.
