African wild ass Foal
Equus africanus (foal)
Somali wild ass foals remain close to their mothers in the arid grasslands, rocky plains, and scrub of the Horn of Africa. They nurse early in life, then begin sampling grasses, leaves, and other sparse vegetation. A foal can stand and run soon after birth, an important defense in a landscape with little cover.
